No, it is not unless you are having a public visitation with an open casket.
What does a funeral director do?
We coordinate funeral choices; clergy, cemetery, sale of all merchandise as selected by the purchaser, along with the preparation of the remains.
Can you handle a death/shipping arrangements involving another state or country?
Yes, we handle all types of shipping and death locations no matter where they may occur.
If I choose not to use this funeral home can you still be a source of information?
Yes, We can provide guidance in selecting one of our other funeral homes/cemeteries.
Do funerals have to be held within 24 hours?
No, in this day and age with families being spread out around the world most people now hold funerals within 72 hours. We call this time between death and burial "travel day(s)".
Why is wood the preferred Jewish casket?
One of the many reasons is that the use of a wood caskets allows the body to decompose allowing the process of returning to dust.
Is it required that the caskets be made of Pine?
No, as long as the casket is constructed of all wood it is considered a "Jewish" casket. The term orthodox when used to describe a casket simply means all wood and no construction on the Sabbath. Another reason wood is used over metal is the fact that metal is a sign of war.
Can personal items be placed in the casket?
Yes, they may. The family may bring any personal item(s) to the funeral home. For the funeral director to place in the casket. Item(s) may be notes, letters, pictures, golf clubs, stuffed animals, etc. these items can only be placed in the casket if a Tahara is not performed.
What is a Shomeir?
A Shomeir is a person who sits with the deceased who says Psalm 23, psalm 91 or selected Psalms so that the first letter of each verse, when put side by side spell out the name of the deceased. Families also use a Shomeir for peace of mind, knowing that someone stays with the remains.
What is a Tahara?
The Tahara is the ritual washing of the body by either the Chevera Kadisha (Men) or Chevera Nashim (Women). So that the body may return to the earth just as it came into it. The remains are dressed in a burial shroud. Clothing is not permitted to be used for a Tahara.
Can I reach a funeral home any time of the day or night?
Yes, funeral homes can be reached 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Most funeral homes have answering services that will pickup for them after the normal business hours. The director on call for the evening is then contacted and will return the call.
How do I pay for a Funeral?
Most funeral homes now accept the use of credit cards for the payment of funeral arrangements. This enables the family to earn points/mileage on the credit card.
When should I purchase a monument or marker for my loved ones gravesite?
A marker or monument can be purchased either when you purchase the sites at prearrangement or 2 to 3 months after the death so that it can be ready when it is time for the unveiling of the marker/monument.
Does law require embalming?
No, Jewish funerals tend to not require embalming because it is a process that would go against Jewish Law, in some extreme cases because of a long delay (generally over 3 days) embalming would be recommended. For other instances when embalming would be required contact a funeral director for further information. |
